DESIGN CONSULTS

Before I became a professional Captain I studied Industrial Design Engineering, in which I have a masters degree on. Later on, as I started my sailing career, my curiosity took me to another masters, this time in Naval Design Engineering.

At this point in my career I have sailed many different boats. I have gathered many ideas and have encountered quite a few design flaws. I am forever learning thanks to my curiosity. I love design challenges that are adaptive to client’s needs, prioritising ease of use and functionality while respecting personality and aesthetics.

At the moment I am working on the complete refit of a 1983 German Frers racing sailing yacht.

She is 45.6ft and has been raced competitively in the Admirals Cup of 1983 by non other than Sir Peter Blake. What an honour.

Many waves later, she is in need of some love and the new owner would like to add some comfort to its interior and bring her back to the glory days.

The design process is well underway. Some of the major changes that are being planned are:

Emptying out the interior completely, leaving just the vessel structure. To clean, insulate and start from scratch.

  • Redesigning and installing all systems from zero including electrics, electronics and plumbing

  • Adding new hull windows, designing and making a new coachroof as well as a dodger and bimini.

  • Adding deck storage compartments such as an anchor chain locker and a stern lazzarete.

    And much more!

If you would like to know more subscribe to the news letter and follow the blog to get the details of the refit.
